Hello Judy,

Thanks for writing. Yes, our VB is powerful. But nobody forced them to take on this job. They volunteered and now they have to deliver.

I do resent Scarsdale10583 being on their side all the time, except a few where she just wants to create controversy…Don’t pay much attention to 10583.

I think the best you can do is to educate and familiarize yourself and ask questions on items you do not understand. We have been here 25 years now and I am finally beginning to grasp the true nature of government here.

I am not happy with the alternative party either. I think the whole system needs change. But that is a big undertaking. I was hoping somebody else would do it. All other interested parties unfortunately by now left town and moved elsewhere.

Even if the alternative candidates gets elected, we are still stuck with this antiquated non-partisan system where volunteers are required to do so much they end up doing nothing …

I think I have written extensively on this on my website. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks again for writing.

Be well,

  Lika

Hi Lika,

Thank you for sending "Save Scarsdale" flyer out and bring the awareness to the residents.  I have read a couple of your blogs and couldn't agree with you more on our volunteer system - they are our elected officials,  they are very powerful, but we can't hold them accountable because they are volunteers and doing a thankless job, we even have to hold our breathe when we talk to them, otherwise will be painted as uncivilized, and next day you would be trashed on 10583.

While we looking into alternatives, would you like to check out the Voter's Choice Party this year (here is their website: http://bit.ly/2lfBfzR)?  I am a support of them now.  But, I am reaching out to you with my own purpose.  I am a newbie to our town politics, if possible, I would like to hear some insight from people like you who have been here a long period of time, deeply and sincerely care about our town, furthermore taking actions to save the essence of this beautiful town.   I truly appreciate what you have done!!!

Best regards,
Judy Kerr

A gentleman by the name of Charles Rubens ( from the Greenacres section of Scarsdale ) called and left a message on my office phone last Monday, March 13th and then called on my home line to let me know that, that was what he had done. He was clearly upset if not angry at the flyer he had received. I shall not repeat his words.

But we had a pleasant phone conversation. He identified himself as a Veteran, 50 year resident of Scarsdale. He was upset he had received a flyer with unpleasant news. He said he is "digitally disabled", his words and therefore was not following anything on the internet. On his street there were no teardowns or McMansions. I think I mentioned Wynmor Street to him - where things are anything but static or stagnant.

He could not understand my frustration. He was living in the Scarsdale of 50 years past I think.  I woke him up to the present. I am sure there are many like him. I keep hearing echoes of his sentiments in the letters published in this week's Inquirer ( March 17, 2017 )  as well as the Scarsdale10583.com site.

Too many people living in their cocoons of years past and assuming all is the same. I wish these people were with me a couple of years ago in June of 2013 when I first started this website to witness the little old ladies of Herkimer Road helpless and hapless in front of the BAR pleading their case. Their neighborhoods under siege, developers every where taking over every little square inch. Or Dell road or Rock Creek Lane... On and on, so many streets loosing their character. Drive on Paddington road, Gatehouse or even Brown Road or Lockwood Road...

They assume everything's where they left them 40-50 years ago. I mentioned this website. I hope he will take a look. We hung up on a pleasant note. We both agreed "Things change'...

To be clear: I do welcome the VCP candidates and I think this is a step in the right direction. But we should further take a good look at the NP system and weed out what is not working from what is.

Time for a complete overhaul. Time to restore a badly injured Scarsdale before we reach the point of no return.

I shall be updating this post periodically. Check back for other comments...

  1. Great post, it is a big pleasure for me to read about it. But also you could make a presentation about it. I pretty often have to to do it, cuz in my company I am engaged in the sale of our products, for this purpose I need to do for some presentations. A few days ago i thought about this and found a great service with a lot of great templates.

  2. Thanks, Wilma.

Several people have suggested I should do a presentation. When I have a bit of time, soon.
