Compost News !

Below is the e-mail I received:

We get to take back, some of our compost !!! on Saturday April 22nd. See below:

Hello Scarsdale Food Scrap Recycling Participants,

We wanted to provide everyone with a brief update on the fantastic results of the food scrap recycling program to date and also let you know about an opportunity to receive some of the compost that your food scraps have been turned into!

On April 22nd, we will have a FREE COMPOST GIVE BACK DAY!  All Village residents visiting the Scarsdale Recycling Center from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm will be able to receive compost recycled from YOUR very own food scraps!  Simply bring a pail, bucket or other receptacle, and take some home! You can use it in your garden, flower beds or sprinkle it on your turf.  Also available on that day will be FREE RAIN BARRELS for anyone who is interested!

THANK YOU for being Scarsdale's pioneering first 300+ residents to participate in this program.  You are what is driving its success!  Since the program launched in January, we have collected over 15,000 pounds of food waste, or seven (7.5) tons!  All of these food scraps have been returned to the earth and converted into useful compost!

As a reminder, refills of the 3-gallon compostable bags (for your countertop bin) are available for $2/roll at the Recycling Center office.  What’s NEW is that larger 13-gallon bags (for your larger green bin) are also available for $5/roll.  Please remember that the office can only accept checks.

PLEASE CONTINUE SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT THE PROGRAM, so we can reach our goal of 1,000 participating households in the first year.

Thanks again for participating, happy food scrap recycling and as always please email composting@scarsdale.com anytime with questions, comments or feedback.
