2-4 Weaver Street

Once again on the Planning Board agenda... Tonight.

Below is how the Heathcote Tavern looked Monday, June 26th. The cupola that has been missing since  superstorm Sandy, has not been repaired. I called the listing agent for the building many times and got reassurances... But they never did anything. They know how much we all miss the cupola and how it completes the tower... But, no. They have not done a thing to please the residents.

Instead their    requests do not seem to stop.

Now, they no longer wish to bury the power lines to the building. Well, that is not acceptable. Their artistic sensitivity leaves much too be desired.

I think their request in front of the Planning Board should be denied. Instead they should be required to repair and put the cupola in place by end of July 31, 2017. Plus the power lines should be buried, no matter what the cost.

24 Morris Lane, Scarsdale the VB Meeting Tuesday June 27, 2017

Here it is:

Begging for a little TLC, not a death sentence.

Very appropriate that the CHP declared it worthy of conservation, finally.... In front of the VB now Tuesday night. Because they would like to demolish this... Why ? No reason at all. A little TLC and this will regain its former glory... So, lovely... Look at that brick tile roof, as good as the first day in 1923 it was put there. An indication of the quality, workmanship all throughput the property I am sure.

Stone benches...

The tennis court,,,

The Scarsdale Village Board approved the demolition of this house in its Tuesday, July 11th meeting.

Back of the house

Everything in fine condition, even the wood shutters...

Heathcote Road homes...

If you look closely you will see, a well picture etched...

Below is 18 Heathcote ever growing.... Look at the displaced soil...

Wanted to leave you with the natural beauty of a butterfly captured yesterday afternoon at a location in Westchester County a little further north from Scarsdale. No reason we cannot have more of them if we stopped covering Scarsdale with concrete and asphalt....

Curious case of Scarsdale10583.com and the CHP...

In the past Editor in Chief, Ms. JW of Scarsdale10583.com fame would be publishing CHP agendas along with many pictures. One (  at least myself )  thought she was a conservation advocate.

In the past few months or so I seem not to be able to read about the CHP any more on the site... Any reason ? Or am I just missing these posts ?...

Now, she seems to delight in publishing sales of homes hitting the stratosphere...

May be I was right after all, though some chose to deny my hunches or past conversations on these subjects. The curious case of  "development" in Scarsdale is "developing" also...

As a woman in Edgewood once remarked on one of my photograph-the-old house expeditions:

"It is all about money"... What happened to principles, law and order ?.... MIA.

Library Project Fundraising Update

Thanks to donations from more than 130 households and two extraordinary $1M challenge grants, which effectively double the value of donations made during the challenge period, over $5M is now committed toward the Library's $7.5M fundraising goal! While very much “on track,” the Library Campaign Committee remains active in soliciting new gifts and pledges to enable construction of the Library Addition and Renovation project to begin on-time in the first half of 2018.

Road Resurfacing Prioritization

The Village of Scarsdale maintains over 90 centerline miles of roadway. Our Pavement Management System (PVMS), which is based on a village-wide roadway physical condition survey, is important in setting annual road resurfacing priorities. The last roadway condition survey was completed in 2009 and it needs to be updated. The Village Board approved a contract last night with MHM Associates for a 2017 update to the PVMS. For more info, see last night's Village Board Agenda Item (page 80).

Study of Assessor's Office

Management Partners, Inc., will undertake a study of the Assessor's Office. The project scope includes resident and staff interviews, discussions with regulatory entities and peer communities, and other tasks. The forward-looking final report will include recommendations for ensuring ethical, efficient service delivery, as well as suggested practices for achieving fair and equitable property tax distribution. For more info, see last night's Village Board Agenda Item (page 48).

Monday June 12, 2017 Freightway Town Hall meeting

I wanted to post a quick summary of the meeting last night along with my thoughts and impressions. I will add to this post later as my schedule allows...

It was a well attended meeting with many residents as well as shop keepers ( on Garth Road )  in attendance. Few residents stood up and talked. Cynthia Roberts and Lena Crandall among them that I could readily identify. They have been at this game for a while now, as many of you know. You can watch it all on line. See the Scarsdale.com site for more information.

Here below is former Mayor Jon Mark, Chair of the Freightway Steering Committee with members of the firm BFJ retained to help us through this process of discovery... As we discover what we want for this site...

Below is the slide for the schedule of the evening. It was adhered to. One did not feel rushed or lingered.

I liked the electronic polling that took place. That was a novel way to engage the audience. It was fun, engaging and very interesting as each one of us took out our phones and put in words that described our present feelings about the site. We were told it was all being archived.

The next exercise was to put in words that described what we would like on the site...

Here below is the site. As you see ingress and egress is via two narrow streets off of Garth Road. We will have to work on that. I think it is crucial to open up the site.

I agreed with almost all that our consultants said. However, I do not think Christie Place is such a " success story"... A big block of a building is not a success story. Far from it.

The Chateaux is more of a success story. A  cluster of buildings in a garden is more of a success story. I would like to see something along those lines. We have to soften the surroundings. Too much concrete is not good. Humans like soil, green, water. The elements we are made of as well.

Concrete is man made, artificial. Foreign, alien, not in harmony with our souls or beings..

Here below are members of the Freightway steering committee at the meeting, second row as well as members of the press. Or Scarsdale Inquirer and Catherine Ferris in the third row.

Here below, is a plan of the space under consideration. It is begging for expansion.

It has the potential to become a very beautiful space. To me that means: green, trees, water, buildings not more than few stories high. One should not feel dwarfed. Not Christie Place height. Height of De Cicco. Not more.

Shallow pool in the summer, with fountains alternating, soft music streaming, ice rink in the winter. Few shops, residential space, garage under grade...Free internet and you have crowds coming. Pretty simple !!!

Looking forward to the next meeting.
So far, so good.

Fountains In Salzburg, Austria

As you can see below, I was trying to upload videos of fountains in town squares in Salzburg. However, these are not uploading, courtesy of Google who bought Blogger. Before the purchase, I was able to upload in 2013 for example...

Meetings week of June 12, 2017 at Village Hall Scarsdale

Please note the list below is not necessarily correct. Village has since this publication decided it will not post internal meetings on the display below or will make sure they are shown as such.

For example, there is no Downtown Revitalization meeting tonight... FYI.

Better double check.
